B365V2.40 - The bench

My blogging bench (by the way, pulling the photo from the iPad didn't work, I had to email it to myself and download it to my desktop, fucking Google!)

Back on my bench with not much new to report.  I tried taking apart my laptop and reconnection the hard drive, since that is the problem diagnostically speaking  but no dice, it still doesn't work, so once again I am on the iPad on my park bench typing away.  I did manage to bust out ye olde hand crank and give it a couple of turns to get my desktop running, but it moves slower than a bowel movement from someone who has consumed too much government cheese.  Worse still, I haven't turned it on in like two years, so there is the issue of two years worth of updates to take care of, as well as the fact it is a Windows XP, which while I love that operating system, far more so than the windows systems that came after it, Microsoft no longer services it, so any problems I have with it are mine and mine alone.

As you can see by my bench pic ( provided I can get said pic uploaded to the blog ) I snagged me some Snapple from Numan's store on the way here and I brought some reading material to boot.  Just needed to get out of the house for a little while.  Lots of lightning bugs are out as well, the neighborhood kids and I used to get together on nights like tonight and try hitting them with whiffle ball bats.  It wasn't quite as much fun as blasting locusts with the garden hose, but close.

For those that want to visit or stalk me, I will be working the overnight shift at Smithfield News on July 4th.  Time and a half baby, plus an extra vacation day somewhere down the line.  I talked to Ed today about getting an advance on my pay sometime next week in order to buy a replacement laptop.  He said I could sell off my vacation days if I wanted to, I do have eleven of them stockpiled, but I would prefer not to use them just yet.  The replacement model and I was looking at is about $400 on Amazon, though I do have a $50 gift card coming to me and I could probably get another $15 if I cashed out my swag bucks points.  If he could front me the money, and I know if I ask he will, I could pay it off come payday.  It is one of the perks of my job, one that I don't like to use too much, I hate owing people money, so I may just hold off for two weeks and try to be tablet only, save for at work when I can use one of the office computers.  I believe I backed up most of the pertinent info on my laptop, either on one of my flash drives at work, or on Google drive, so while I will lose something with the laptop, mostly it will just be things I can do without anyway.

Besides, if I keep the vacation days I might actually take a vacation.  I was online pricing some out the other day, places I would like to visit but never found the time or money too, after my raise a couple of weeks ago I think I could start putting money away and picking a destination.  I was thinking of Vancouver, just because when some asks you where you went on vacation, nobody answers Vancouver.  Of course that means I will have to get a passport, the last time I was out of the country was pre 9/11 when you didn't need a passport for Canada, now after the  terrorists attacks known as Celene Dion and Avril Lavigne were visited upon the globe from up north, everybody needs a passport.  But Vancouver was on my bucket list, along with Toronto, New Orleans and Hawaii as places I want to go before I die ( alone in my apartment ).

I think I taught myself how to move pictures from the iPad to the blog however.  One must use the phone option when selecting photos, and even that is problematic, as is the copy and paste function to the tablet, though I think I have that problem figured out.  What can I say, Blogger is not tablet friendly.  Then again, I now have the desktop up and running, so I could just email this to myself and work in a much more conventional manner.  Whatever I decide to do, I better do it quickly, it is getting dark out here in the park, which means it is almost feeding time for the raccoons.  The last time I was here one scurried across the road that runs behind the bench, only to climb into a garbage can about 20 feet away.  Great, now I have Stray Cat Strut stuck in my head, "I get my dinner from a garbage can........".
