Well this would explain why the lead car in last night's chase and subsequent crash was a state trooper.

An Arlington man awaiting trial for alleged drug and firearm offenses racked up new charges by running a DUI checkpoint on the Birmingham Bridge, state police said.
Terrell Jamal Grant, 19, sped through the checkpoint just before midnight Saturday, knocking over several traffic cones and signs, says the report by Trooper Bryan Schutz. Several police officers had to doge the van, which exited the bridge toward the Oakland ramp and almost collided with oncoming traffic before running a red light, the report says.
Grant then lost control of the van and crashed, the report says. State police are investigating and have charged Grant with multiple offenses.
Allegheny County court records show Grant is currently awaiting trial on charges in a separate case, including drug trafficking, illegal possession of a firearm and receiving stolen property.
