Multiply 365 Day 249 - 9/11 Fatigue

Okay, I am officially tired. I am so sick of seeing and promos of what each television and radio station is going to do on the 10th anniversary of 9/11, Facebook people imploring me to change my profile pic to commemorate the anniversary or copy and paste some inane status message. Let me make this abundantly clear, I don't fucking care.

The true test of 9/11 was not remembering where we were that day or what we did, but how would we come out of it. And you know what? In that regard we failed miserably. Yes, thousands of Americans lost their lives that day, and our nation sent thousands more into harms way to hopefully protect us from that type of incident occurring again. But really, what were they protecting? A nation that after a brief pause of mourning went right back to the same collection of self absorbed dumb fucks that we were prior to 9/11, except now we have to wait longer at the airport.

When the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor it spurred America to action, a nation acted almost as one, some fought, others aided the effort at home by either building or donating things to those that were fighting on our behalf. But the sense was that the nation took up the cause as a collective effort. After 9/11, not so much. George Bush may not be the smartest guy in the room, but he hit the nail on the head when after 9/11 he told Americans to go shopping. Because that is our mentality, 9/11 to most Americans was more like losing your electricity during a rousing bout of World of Warcraft. Lots of bitching and moaning, until the electricity gets turned back on, then the status quo returns. So while many bled and died on our behalf, there was a collective sigh on the homefront, we couldn't even be bothered with showing the caskets as those soldiers came home, lest it interfere with our petty bickering that makes us so “great”.

So you will have to excuse me if I am just a little too fatigued to bother with this nonsense. Hell the President just addressed Congress this evening, and some members of Congress couldn't even be bothered to attend. Yes, we sure have learned a lot since 9/11, we learned how shallow and simple minded we really are.

  4. Being someone in the field I am about to throw my hands up in the air and not care anymore. Since we infringe with peoples freedoms trying to keep them safe and we are idiots because nothing has happened for the last 10 years the FUCK them. I am about to say sit back and let he suicide bombers start in this country. Sarin attacks in the mass transit. Blowing up city buses for shits and grins. Blowing up markets full of shoppers. That's what happens in other countries. If we are such fools and so stupid for trying to keep people safe then I say let them die. That's what they want. Freedom to be blown up or poisoned. Those of us who work in the security field will still get the intel and keep our families safe but for those who think we are stupid and take away their freedoms let them have what they ask for.
