Multiply 365 Day 114 - Olde Tyme Radio

Hey kids, sitting on the laptop again.  The desktop is just furniture this evening.  I am also listening to the radio, the Penguins-Lightning game is currently on and since I don't have cable and the Department of Homeland Security cracked down on my favorite streaming sites (because if I can watch hockey online for free then surely the terrorists have won) so it is all of the occupants of my apartment (me) gathered round the radio, hoping for good news.

So far all it is not good, it is Lightning 2-1 after two periods.  But we still got time.  Really, if "Chuck" wouldn't have been a repeat I would probably be watching that instead of listening to the game.  Even as a repeat it was a tough choice, just because an hour of Yvonne Strahovski on my TV is an hour of good television in my book.  Many thank to the fine people of Australia for sending her this way, even if it is just for TV tapings before she jets back.  The people of Canada could take a lesson from you.  Shania Twain?  Alanis Morrisette?  Bare Naked Ladies?  Really?  Really?  In hockey parlance, that would be a 5 minute major for sucking.  Maybe even a game misconduct.

But while I type and listen (in that order, it is the second intermission) I am once again gnawing on a Cuban sandwich.  The more I eat these things, the more I am apt to think that they are just the best sandwich ever.  I know it has definitely climbed up my list of favorite local sandwiches, right up there with that pinnacle of locality, the Primanti's capacola and egg.  Nothing against Primanti's, this sandwich is, to quote the Greek philosopher Kurt Angle, is just "that damn good.  It's true, it's damn true."

I would like to say that there is something besides my sandwich that is blog worthy today, but really what is there?  One of Charlie Sheen's girlfriends left him, presumably because the prospect of the torpedo of Ron Jeremy was better than the Torpedo of Truth.  How do they do that in Twitterspeak?  #fucking

Hey, it's 2-2 now.  Woohoo and all that jazz.  That is what I get for typing slowly, now it is 3-2 Lightning.  Unwoohoo and all that jazz.

My reading has tailed off a bit, still trying to build up the Amazon account, though I did add another $5 on Sunday to the account.  But I picked up a biography on Teddy Roosevelt that I am slowly working my way through.

Wow, the Penguins are absolutely awful on the power play in this series.  They just had another one with the chance to tie the game, yet they failed making them 1 for 30 in the series.  How the hell did they get a series lead with god awful numbers like that?

Well the sandwich is now done, and I should be as well.  After all, the whole 365 project only requires that I blog every day, not blog well.  That would be a completely different animal, and possibly beyond my meager skill set.  So on days like today, you just take what you can get.  Besides the game is now 4-2 and I have a feeling everyone is going to stop gathering around the radio in the near future.

  1. Oh, poor Charlie, he has but one goddess :(. No worries, there are plenty of drug addicted, botox filled leeches standing in the gravy train line I'm sure. Sorry blocked out the hackey. Does not compute :D.

  2. At least she got out before he beat the shit out of her and she was left locking herself in the bathroom making a 911 call. For the record let me just say that when letting a guy like Ron Jeremy bust a nut on you is actually considered a forward thinking move, well in Bugs Bunny speak your career path made a wrong turn at Albequerque.

  3. Yeah, sorry, big package or no big package, pseudo celeb or not, even if he wasn't venereal disease laden, I would never risk carrying those genes in my personage. *Shivers*

  4. I don't understand how he got laid the first time.

  5. Which one, Ron Jeremy or Charlie Sheen? I'll admit I have heard Ron Jeremy before outside of the occasional porn clip and he is a funny guy. He may be troll like in his appearance but with a big member, but he is also dare I say, a pretty engaging sort. Sheen on the other hand, may be the better looking of the two, but with his track record of how he abuses the women he is with, any time some one actually voluntarily opts to lay down with him, well at this point they pretty much deserve what they get. It may seem cold, but I have a pretty low threshhold for stupidity. I am not suggesting having sex with either one mind you, but I think I have more respect for the girls that sleep with the porn guy at this point.

  6. It's disturbing to me that the average male sees nothing much outside of the female form, her physicality, her facial beauty, the length of her hair, size of her tits, and grasps nothing of the woman's character. If Ron Jeremy is banging hot chicks how does that equate to win when these hookers are sleeping with everything? Could go both ways, oft' doesn't. :) If I were a man, I'd be excruciatingly picky, then again, vaginas scare me lol!

  7. I have no problem with Ron Jeremy sleeping with women for cash any more than I have a hooker sleeping with a guy for cash. It isn't what I would say would be a positive career choice in either instance, but I am not going to be too judgemental. I would have no problem if prostitution were legal, it would probably be safer that way. As for why men just look at parts, i would say one of the unforseen consequences of the whole equal rights/feminist movement is that women didn't just want to be treated equal to men but wanted to be treated just like them, so showing off those parts, and having sex for sex's sake to show how much like men they were, actually makes women more like objects than they thought they were previously. Whereas a man before might have had those types of thoughts about a woman, he had to have somewhat of an imagination, that is no longer the case because she is more that willing to freely show off all of those parts anyway. he may have had to work at building a relationship, getting to know his partner, etc. now it is just a couple of drinks and maybe dinner.

  8. That may well be the single most intelligent paragraph I've read coming from a liberal standpoint that I have had the privilege of reading in all of my life. You said so much in that condensed paragraph that rang true and actually made me appreciate the view point. Bravo.

  9. And just so there's no misunderstanding. I mean that sincerely, without snark or a patronizing tone.

  10. I try not to be too liberal or conservative, I think my view on prostitution is actually more libertarian than anything else. But I also believe that far too often, what seems good at first, turns out to not be so rosy in the grand scheme of things. The idea that men and women should be paid the same for doing the same work. Hand me the petition and I will sign it in a heartbeat. If you want me to say that men and women are exactly the same, that's a different animal and it is those differences that should be cherished, not pushed to the side in a fit of political correctness run amok. If you don't want men looking at women's asses per se (well at least as much, guys will always look at women's asses to some degree) don't opt for the plumbers clothing apparel line with your thong sticking out of your pants, or have "Eat at Joe's", "Pink" or "Baby" printed across the ass cheeks of your too short sweat pants. And don't even get me started on tramp stamps, where the main goal is to give a guy something to look at while he is back there, because the owner of the stamp certainly can't see it without getting into some contorted yoga position. Now I don't want my rant to be seen as women should be walking around in some Puritan outfit, or a burka but by the same token, some people go out of there way to draw attention to themselves and then are surprised when that attention actually occurs.

  11. In my view, the affection men have for women is beautiful within context. It's raw, natural, it's exciting. It can send a woman's heart racing. It is so much more powerful than I have room to express, but, what saddens me, is when women become interchangeable in the eyes of a man, disposable if you will. You see, what men do not understand about these young naive girls, is that, while they certainly may be begging for "THAT" kind of attention, they often do not (at the time fully grasp exactly what they are getting themselves into). This can leave the most willing scared in an after effect to which (unless she is underage) the man is certainly not fully responsible for but the emotional readiness of a young girl to face being used for selfish purposes is not a matured one. It can affect her over all sense of well-being, trust and security. That was my rant on the young ones, as for the older ones, they can hardly compete with the younger ones for anything worth holding onto... I dunno I could ramble for hours on these matters to no clear purpose so I'll spare you my thoughts on the breadth of dating faux pas. It all just makes me feel ok with not being on that scene or not being available.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I guess for me, I'd rather be perched atop and gazing into the eyes of someone who I know is special and has earned a place in my heart, not just my pants. Guys are different to a degree, but you have to admit you all use the "guys are dogs" excuse in order to be just that. It really robs people of intimacy on a deeper level, strips them somewhat of their worth.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Well technically I am available, though I have all but tired of the dating scene at this point. And I agree with what you said, guys are just more primal in their urges than women. That doesn't mean that a guy can't be affectionate or a female can't enjoy the physical aspects of a relationship. A good pairing tends to have the better elements of both. But like I said earlier, where the train seemed to jump the tracks is when women didn't want to show that they were an equal to men, but when they wanted to show they were just like them. The resultant pairings are almost all urge driven, with little to bind it beyond physical pleasure. And when those pairings become the norm, then it is no longer a matter of searching for someone's better half, but simply a search to find who humps best.

  14. Well, ok then, let's explore that. What constitutes "humping the best"? :D I mean, really, does it have to be the best? Where are the boundaries in that male threshold? LMAO! (I'm teasing, I already know the answers, merely pointing out the absurdity in the male thought pattern).

    ReplyDelete
  15. Anyone can have good sex. Anyone can learn to have good sex. It's all in the mind. It's the most sexual organ we have. Not everyone can make something good last and so the challenge becomes feeding that satiation. :) Men just love to act tough and unfazed in the affairs of the heart, but alas the male is human with human needs. To me, sex compliments relationships not the other way around, but those are the standards I have chosen for myself.

    ReplyDelete
  16. What constitutes "humping the best"? I would argue that is like asking who makes the best pizza. Everyone has their preferences. And when there is no emotional attachment involved, I would garner that there are plenty of people who are just out there looking to try the newest pizza shop on the block, in hopes that it is better than the pizza they have been currently having.

  17. Yep :) my point exactly. Thanks for the chat. I love dynamic, interactive people. You seem to be one.

  18. Here is my view on prostitution. Two consenting adults (being that neither party is being deceived in any fashion, should be free to do as they please. I don't support prostitution though because I feel that people are easily influenced by what society deems as norm and perhaps someone who would not other wise engage in the purchase or trade for sex (if it were legal) may do so. This could cause innocent parties (such as wives and subsequent potential mates) to be exposed to life threatening/ life altering diseases. I think we have certain responsibilities as citizens to shun lurid behaviors in the public forum for just these types of scenarios. Is it our problem? Yes, I think it is. You need look no further than the staggering V.D. stats on the CDC. That is not to say this is the only source of the problem but one which can be at least curbed by law.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Well if prostitution were legalized, I wold argue the government would better be able to get a handle on sexually transmitted diseases, seeing as how it wouldn't be a profession that needs to be hidden away. What takes place between two consenting adults and whethr or not money changes hands in that endeavor is really none of my business. But if it is going to occur, and we already know it does, ideally I would like the practice to be as safe as possible for all involved. If you look at the case of Nevada, where there is some legalized prostitution, there aren't any spikes in the rates of chlamidya, gonorreha, and syphilis, they pretty much fall in the middle when compared to the rest of the United States.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Nevada is certainly well advanced with the standards of it's Bordellos. High class industry standards (if you can swallow/ and or spit ~ sorry had to make that joke :) ~ the irony, would not be adopted as the norm in rural areas. We would be left with the after effects of a slippery ( when wet :)) slope.

  21. I must make this point as well, before 1980, none of us (lay persons, pardon the pun) knew AIDS existed, and so testing and or treatment for the disease before irreversible damage occurred was impossible. Disease and the micro world of the human predator is an ever-changing landscape which breeds it's best arsenal in the shadowy depths of human practices. Just because disease is not at a spike in Nevada, does not necessarily make for a good litmus for assessing the tangible threat to humanity as a whole. Perhaps disease is not spiking because a). There are powerful people with vested interest tied to the industry b). Most diseases aren't being reported c). Madams and Pimps have a vested interest in not presenting a "damaged product" and if diseases are known, they are swept under the rug of the all-mighty dollar.

  22. Most of the women in the pornography/sex trade industry are strong drug abusers who lace their conscious' with heavy substance in order to function within their roles as product/object. High health standards and drug addicts do not oft' go hand in hand.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Also, Nevada *taps lip* are we talking about the same Nevada who failed to report the breadth and scale of radiation bombing fallout on the rest of the nation? That Nevada? :) Who doesn't love hookers with three eyes? All the better to see what's in your pants my dear.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Well the numbers I used were from the CDC (I can probably refind the link if you like, they were from 2009, the most recent year I could find), so the questioning of the reporting would also go to their ability to gather numbers. On such issues I tend to give the benefit to those that know more than me, I know myself well enough to know when I am out of my league on such matters. And while I agree that in your logic of the shadowy depths of human practices disease is more likely to run rampant, that is why I would rather have prostitution out in the open that continuing to be done in back alleys, back seats and poorly lit rooms. What happened with AIDS (and continues to happen) is a travesty, let's not forget that part of the reason it became the epidemic it was was that homosexual behavior was not nearly as accepted then as it is now, so far more infected people were likely to remain in the closet, even if that very closet was killing them. Nevada has realized the value of openess in regards to disease, and also that the industry (which generates considerable revenue for the state) is best served when those that participate are not of the disease riddled ilk.

You are correct that high health standards and drug abuse to not go hand in hand, but that is because by and large, drug abuse (even if drugs use was legalized, another thing I really don't have problem with) is bad for the body to begin with, regardless of how many clean needle programs one comes up with.. I could only hope I would be sexed to death, lol. Volunteering participants, the line starts to the right.

And as for radiation fallout and nuclear testing, I am under the impression that those were military tests, and therefore any reporting or lack thereof would have fallen under federal, not state jurisdiction.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Yeah, you got me on the jurisdiction, damn.

    ReplyDelete
  26. While I understand your logic to a point, legalizing prostitution would enlarge the pool of participants, hence making the possibility of the spread of disease more likely than not. You see, there will always be a seedier side to even the seedy sides. By giving amnesty to the street urchin, you do nothing but condone and widen the impact that underbelly has. It would be a ripple effect into main stream.

    ReplyDelete
  27. While the upper echelon (and I bite my tongue) of prostitution would prosper and be in good health and financial benefit, the flip side would fester and continue bad practices. Eventually, you would see the lines blurred and with the blurring of those lines (no boundaries) it would be hard to discern the one from the other.

    ReplyDelete
  28. You may be right, the only true way to know would be for legalization to occur and we all know that isn't happening. I just have one of my lines in the sand that a person can do with their body whatever they like (prostitution, drugs, suicide), as long as they accept responsibility for their actions. Which may be asking too much of some people, I realize, but under the current scenario we end up cleaning up too many of their messes anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I agree, let them choose their own path. "We hold these truths to be self evident"... yadda yadda
