A brief disclaimer, those unfamiliar with the Blunt Force Trauma blogs probably need to move along if they are offended easily. There is nothing good for you to read here. For those that are familiar, well it is back, not by popular demand, but because something pissed me off, surprise, surprise.
Let's take a trip in the Wayback Machine to 9/11 for just a moment, shall we? No, I am not going to go off on some rant about fundamentalist Islam, rather I want to focus on the comments on Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson, who used the opportunity to place the blame for the attacks that day on every group that they disapprove of, gays, feminists, the ACLU, etc. Pretty much everyone but the actual perpetrators of the act, and all because this was God's judgement against us. The comments were widely ridiculed, as well they should have been, the fact either of them has a shred of credibility after such a thing speaks less to the veracity of their argument and more to the stupidity of their followers.
Now let's come to present day and a more recent tragedy, the earthquake in China, where aftershocks are still being felt and bodies are still being pulled out of the rubble. Sharon Stone uses the opportunity to say that maybe the tragedy is karma for the Chinese treatment of Tibet. Just how the hell is this any different than the above statement? Tens of thousands of people are dead, most of which had little or nothing to do with Chinese government policy toward Tibet, yet Sharon believes this is some sort of cosmic justice? Is it really any better to attribute a tragedy to karma than the idiocy spewed forth by Robertson and Falwell?
This is the type of stuff that just pisses me off and makes me wish for bad things to happen to these people. Like maybe hearing Sharon Stone was sodomized with a Coke bottle and rubber mallet, and when she went to report the attack to the police, the officer looks her in the eye and says. "Well, that's just kismet for not shutting your fucking pie hole."
If Sharon Stone believes in karma, she needs to start sleeping with one eye open. Wasn't she the one that arranged for her husband to "meet" a kimono dragon?
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite movies of all time is Casino, but i think that's more about DeNiro and Scorsese than about her. I think she looks like a tranny drag queen these days, and I wonder why anyone would even listen to her opinions.
I have no problem with Sharon Stone being an actress, I do have a problem with her using a tragedy as some sort of sounding board for her political causes. I am not particularly fond of China's policy with Tibet myself (what little I know of it, which admittedly isn't much) but I don't find the death of tens of thousands in a natural disaster as justification for my feelings.
ReplyDeleteI have problems with any one in hollyweird using their status to expound on politics. They need to stick to their job of reading lines. That is what they get paid for. Why they think we care how they feel is beyond me. What I do find amazing is how philosophical they become when their careers start to suck.
ReplyDeleteheehee
Seriously, movie stars, sports stars and the like should keep their veiws to themselves. Unless they are prepared to take up a career in the political field, a la Peter Garratt, then they should clam up.
ReplyDeleteOh and he is such a stellar example! As soon as he got elected he turned his back on all of his so called ideals that got him there in the first place.
ReplyDeleteWoohoo, Peter Garrat fight !!!!!!! lol I suppose if I knew who he was I might enjoy the throw down a little more.
ReplyDeleteHe was the lead singer of Midnight Oil....now our esteemed Minister for the Environment.
ReplyDeletePeter Garratt is a sell out and a traitor
ReplyDeleteMatt see my blog Aussie Pub Icons - Midnight Oil lol
ReplyDeleteI had one of their cd's, Diesel and Dust, I am terrible with band member names however, nor did I know he was now the Minister of the Enviroment.
ReplyDeleteJust so it is clear, I was not making a comment about his ability as a political figure or his policies, I was simply stating that he put his money where his mouth is.
ReplyDeletethe main point here and i think that is, unless you base your whole career on giving your opinion and you've earned the right for people to listen to you. then shut your mouth and stop blaming god and every other thing that you find immorally wrong. I wont say I agree with everything that they blamed these horrible events in our history on. But call it what it is, and dont go fishing to rename it for something that its not. I mean for gods sakes with all the corrupt things that take place on a minute by minute basis in the whole world. I doubt these two instances that were mentioned are going to make god anymore angry than he would be. If it was so, then the world as a whole would be destroyed I would imagine. not just a country here or there or a city here and there or a building. not to take away from these things. As they are tragic horrible things that took place. Who can say why earthquakes take place and kill millions or billions or whatever the number. who can say why men who claim to follow a sect in a religion climb into planes and blow up buildings and kill senselessly. I certainly cant attempt to guess why. Nor can I guess why people such as pat robertson or sharon stone would comment on such things when they have no right. although i guess their right to free speech gives them so. But really.....
ReplyDeleteMy problem is with the atrtribution. I don't care if Robertson hates gays, or if Sharon Stone has problems with China's relationship with Tibet, but a terrorist attack or an earthquake is not some grand cosmic justification for their opinions.
ReplyDeleteSome people see a pile of rubble and wonder what they can do to help, others just see it as another pile of stones to throw.
NO he didn't. Thats the whole point, he has done nothing. He wa recruited as a blatant attempt by the Labour Party to woo the younger voters. Everything he has stood for in the past as a politicle activist has been ignored since he became a politician. He is nothing but a handbag.
ReplyDeleteSince he is the Minister for the Enviroment, can he blame his inaction on global warming?
ReplyDeleteROFL!!!! why yes, yes you can!
ReplyDeleteThis just in.........
ReplyDelete"Due to my inappropriate words and acts during the interview, I feel deeply sorry and sad about hurting Chinese people," Stone said in the statement. "I am willing to take part in the relief work of China's earthquake, and wholly devote myself to helping affected Chinese people."

what a dumb bitch.
Of course it helped that Chinese theaters were working on a boycott of all current and future productions involving Sharon Stone.
ReplyDeleteAnd Chinese Dior pulled her ads. Seriously. Dumb. Bitch
ReplyDeleteIt is always nice when apologies are offered under the threat of losing dollars.
ReplyDeletethe safest thing we can do with people like stone is .....take away thier voting rights
ReplyDeleteShe should watch her cosmic calculations, for Sichuan has a bit of rebellion against the central government as well as Xinjiang and Tibet. maybe God likes the CommieCapitalists of Bejing!
