Finally off of my backside

Let's get to work shall we? I have been rather suspect in getting material on this page recently, at least anything that I have written.

First off, change meter please. Another 18 cents, so the new total is $34.30. March is off to a decent start. Usually I am happy if I find somewhere in the ballpark of a dollar a month, the last couple have been sorely lacking in that department. Hopefully this quick start is a sign of bigger and better things.

Fantasy hockey, I finally had a losing week, going 3-5-2. The thing is, the 7th place team went 2-8 and the 8th place team, while going 8-2, didn't pick up enough ground so I have locked up a playoff spot with one week to play in the regular season. The season record stands at 101-88-31 as of last week, and now we just play the last week to see if I can get above the 6 seed in the playoffs. In all likelihood I will not move up, I trail 5th place by 6 pts, and 3rd place by 12 pts (3rd and 4th are tied in points, the difference being the first tiebreaker, which is wins).

I mentioned on a friends blog the other day that I was feeling an urge to get off of my backside. I used to play volleyball, back when I was in high school and dinosaurs roamed the earth. I wasn't great at it but I was decent and I have always had a liking for the game. My first summer out of college, I went home and played that summer on our town's sand outdoor sand court, as we would have pickup games almost every night of the week, starting around 5pm and finishing under lights sometime between 10pm and 11pm. Then a couple of years ago, I hopped into a singles league that played in Squirrel Hill, where I wasn't going to meet people of the opposite gender, rather I was going to deal with the task at hand which was volleyball. Anyway, my schedule changed, and eventually my jobs changed and I feel out of that league too. Finally the other day I hopped onto Google and just did a quick search with the words volleyball and pittsburgh and found a message board of sorts for the where's and whens that games are played around here. Some of which didn't fit my schedule, others were out of season, but I saw one that was in season in the city's Homewood section, so I dropped them a line and it turns out they play Tuesdays and Thursdays. Tuesday blows for me, I double between both jobs, but I am thinking starting this Thursday, I am all kind of in. All that is required is to bring a few bucks for using the room (they play at the neighborhood YMCA) so provided I can find the place okay (mapquest seems to make the process muy easy) I will be passing on my normal evening ritual of Simpsons, Family Guy, Simpsons, Family Guy and instead be opting for serve, set, spike.

Another set of primaries last night and I am being all kind of selfish. With Hillary winning 3 of 4, to some people that means she won't go away soon enough. To me that is the proverbial radio groundhog coming out of his hole and seeing his shadow, signalling 6 more weeks of radio. Plus since Pennsylvania is the next big primary on the board, so maybe we can sell some spots as well.

A big thank you to Fox News for granting me some radio job security as well. Our new program director, since Mike was fired, signed a deal for us to carry the Neil Cavuto Money minute three times a day. Of course the first one comes down at 6:30 am and since it is an item that can't be automated, somebody has to be here to record it, and for now that somebody is me. Mind you, it is not a guarantee I keep my job, but it helps and anything that helps is damn cool in my book.

I did buy a few comic books the other day. I am still avoiding Amazing Spiderman, but there were some back issues of books that I found, like a couple of Fantastic Four books, as well as a few others that I wanted to get my hands on, like New Warriors and I did buy the first Captain America with Bucky as Captain and I will say that the writing still is holding up, which is good because it was probably my favorite book from a strictly story perspective (my favorite from an art perspective is Moon Knight, but I haven't seen one of those recently).

Well Lynn just got into the booth, so I better get ready for a radio show. I still owe a couple of Asshats (we have winners, just not time to discuss them here), so there is still plenty to look forward to, perhaps at another time. Laters,

  1. Came by your page by way of ebyjo. Interesting blog. Volleyball eh? I haven't played since the days of the dinosaurs either. I was on the highschool volleyball team, as was my sister. Maybe I should get out and try again one day......it sounds fun, and like something I may still be able to do in my old age????

Have a great time playing. Sure sounds better than the Simpsons!

  3. Good luck with the volleyball. I used to play in the high school team and also played in a social league for a few years.
