See if you can spot why this video is Asshat worthy. This ran on the Channel 4 News here in Pittsburgh and seems innocent enough, but one of my erstwhile coworkers pointed something out to me that changed it from innocent to asshat worthy in mere moments.
Happy viewing!!!!!!

ReplyDeleteI am not surprised they took it down, I am curious if anyone will be fired over it. For those that didn't get to see the video (the person at work who caught it thankfully taped it, so maybe there will still be video evidence) it was from the station's tech person, Ashley Diparlo talking about the website Twitter, a blogging site that unlike this type of blog, the entries are limited in number of characters you use, with just enough room that most users use it as a real time blog, usually to type what they are doing at that exact moment, like "eating dinner" would be a typical entry. Ashley then contiues to talk about how now some businesses were using Twitter to keep customers clued in on their latest developments. One of the examples she used was some news services (USA Today, CNN and even her employer WTAE Channel 4) that was using Twitter to give it's viewers the most up to date news headlines. The problem was, as she was doing this, the video B roll package was running on the screen and one of the headlines that scrolled pretty quickly up the screen was "George Carlin fucking dead at 71" There was a second expletive laden headline involving Bobby Knight, the mens basketball coach at Texas Tech that also scrolled up the screen, and this all rolled as part of a televised news broadcast.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing that would make the Carlin headline more fitting would be that it was audio and the guy announcing was holding a hit!
