Karaoke Friday - On a Friday no less

Yes, it has been quite a while since I have done one of these on the actual day of the week it is supposed to be on, but I have been on a Motion City Soundtrack kick of late, so finding what I wanted for this week's entry was rather easy for me.

I found a letter that said:
I'm sorry that you were asleep when I wrote these words down,
You'd think I'd ought to be used to that by now.
But save for a few of those late night episodes,
Missed opportunities, and "I Don't Cares,
There's not a lot that I feel obliged to share or talk about.

I'll have my brother stop by this Saturday to pick up my things,
Just make sure you're not there.
This may sound bad, don't take it the wrong way..
I love you, however, you hold me down
You hold me down
You hold me down
You hold me down.

You're the echoes of my everything,
You're the emptiness the whole world sings at night.
You're the laziness of afternoon,
You're the reason why I burst and why I bloom
How will I break the news to you?
How will I break the news to you?

Cancel our dinner with Max and Coraline
Feed Jackies gerbil
And try to stay clean
We'll talk it over after i've had some time alone to sort it out
You hold me down
You hold me down
You hold me down
You hold me down.

You're the echoes of my everything,
You're the emptiness the whole world sings at night.
You're the laziness of afternoon,
You're the reason why I burst and why I bloom
You're the leaky sink of sentiment,
You're the failed attempts I never could forget.
You're the metaphors I can't create to comprehend this curse that I call love..
How will I break the news to you?
How will I break the news to you?
How will I break the news to you?
How will I break the news to you?
How will I break the news to you?

Karaoke Friday - It isn't

Yes, I know, usually I do these entries with the music video (when I even do them anymore), but I was sitting at my desk today at work and this old favorite came on.  Problem being that there isn't a video for the song, at least one that I ever found.  So instead you are stuck with this, sorry about that.  Better luck next time.

Songwriters: GERRARD, LISA/PERRY, BRENDAN
I thought that you knew it all
Well you've seen it ten times before.
I thought that you had it down
With both your feet on the ground.
I love slow ... slow but deep.
Feigned affections wash over me.
Dream on my dear
And renounce temporal obligations.
Dream on my dear
It's a sleep from which you may not awaken.
You build me up then you knock me down.
You play the fool while I play the clown.
We keep time to the beat of an old slave drum.
You raise my hopes then you raise the odds
You tell me that I dream too much
Now I'm serving time in disillusionment.
I don't believe you anymore ... I don't believe you.
I thought that I knew it all
I'd seen all the signs before.
I thought that you were the one
In darkness my heart was won.
You build me up then you knock me down.
You play the fool while I play the clown.
We keep time to the beat of an old slave drum.
You raise my hopes then you raise the odds
You tell me that I dream too much
Now I'm serving time in a domestic graveyard.
I don't believe you anymore ... I don't believe you.
Never let it be said I was untrue
I never found a home inside of you.
Never let it be said I was untrue
I gave you all my time.

Karaoke Friday - Inspirationally speaking

One of the things that Sammy and I do at work is, when we are putting away a grocery order, we will bust out into song.  Not good son, but are sad sack version of taking a product and find a way to make fun of it with a bad musical or cultural reference.  As a result, there will be times when we are putting away, say, tampons, and The Clapper commercial will come to mind (Tamp on, Tamp off, Tamp on Tamp off,  the tampon).  Another such musical selection is below, where the chorus gets replaced with such things as "Beans, Beans, Pork and Beans" or "Cheese, Cheese, Mac and Cheese".  But rather than do a video of Sammy and I singing (badly), I thought this time I would go to the original source material.

Karaoke Friday - The hockey edition

I know, another feature that has slipped from the blog, but with me having a pair of tickets to Monday night's hockey game (Penguins - Bruins), it seemed like a good time to add this little ditty to the Karaoke list, since it is played every time the Pens score a goal

WOOHOO!
WOOHOO!
WOOHOO!
WOOHOO!

I got my head checked
By a jumbo jet
It wasn't easy
But nothing is,
No -

WOOHOO!
When I feel heavy metal WOOHOO!
And I'm pins and I'm needles WOOHOO!
Well I lie and I'm easy
All of the time but I'm never sure why I need you
Pleased to meet you!

I got my head done
When I was young
It's not my problem
It's not my - problem -

WOOHOO!
When I feel heavy metal WOOHOO!
And I'm pins and I'm needles WOOHOO!
Well I lie and I'm easy
All of the time but I'm never sure why I need you
Pleased to meet you!

Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Oh, yeah

Karaoke Friday - This is what you get

I'll admit, there is something I like about this video.  It's the fact that the band basically gets the shit kicked out of them by little kids.  This fate should befall any group where the lead singer is a guy trying to sing like a woman.  I would pay good money to see the assclowns of Maroon 5 get kicked in the nutsack.  But for now I guess I have to settle for this.

Sometimes life it takes you by the hand.
It puts you down before you know it
It's gone and you're dead again.
I've been in places and I won't pretend
That I make it I just follow my head.
When its strange to take a walk downstairs
Sweep u all up on a corner and pay for my bread.
You know that I cannot believe my own truth
To show what a truth, got nothin' to lose.

Yeah yeah and it's okay.
I tie my hands up to a chair so I don't fall that way.
Yeah yeah and I'm alright.
I took a sip of something poison but I'll hold on tight.

You know those days when u wanted to choose
To not get out of bed and get lost in your head again.
You play the game but you gotta cut
Cuz' you're comin' down hard your joints are off stud.
I tried to say that's not the only way
I never knew if I could convince myself to change.
You were pacing I was insecure.
Slip and fall I got the call of the prison I was livin' in.

Yeah yeah and it's okay.
I tie my hands up to a chair so I don't fall that way.
Yeah yeah and I'm alright.
I took a sip of something poison but I'll hold on tight

Karaoke Friday - In the wee hours

As I mentioned in the blog earlier this week, I did end up staying up all night one day after getting a too long nap in earlier in the evening. One of the things I did while I was up was convert some more of my Amazon cash into music I could then burn to CD and listen to at work.  While I could go about posting the entire list on here in the music category, instead I will just opt to post one of the songs in video form.  As always there are lyrics in case you want to sing along.  After all, how Karaoke-ey would it be if you couldn't sing?  Now wanting to sing, well that is entirely up to you to decide.

All these buckets of rain
I've heard enough about
You say that I lied
I am a gentlemen
Didn't I ask for a place I could stay
Well, what were we both thinking
the next part just got in the way?
You were just always talking about Changing
What if I was the same man
The same I always was

All these things that you say
Like i'll forget about
The mind-numbing games that you play
I am a gentlemen
Didn't I pay for every laugh every dime,
Every bit in return
And then you feed me some lie
I wont hear one more word about Changing
Guess what I am the same man

same man I've always been

Days pass and turn into weeks
when we don't even speak
We just lay wide awake
And pretend we're asleep
And you go home alone
And your checking your phone
And you're looking at me
Like I'm Something You Own

All these buckets of rain
You cant forget about
You say I'll never try
I am a gentlemen
Didn't I answer every time that you called
Picked you up when you fall
But you never listened at all
You were just always talking about Changing
Guess what I am the same man, same man

Changing guess what I am the same man, same man

Changing guess what I am the same man, same man

Karaoke Friday - First up

Wasn't sure what I wanted to use for this entry.  Finally I decided not to decide at all, rather I would let my Pandora station do the picking for me and just grab the first song that my station played.  So I dutifully headed over to Pandora and fired up ye old station and this is what it came up with.  As an addeed bonus someone put the lyrics in the video, saving me the btrouble.

Karaoke Friday - Songs that will not be serenades

Since a topic has come up recently about Guitar Hero and serenades and I was looking for something to do to kill some time this evening, I thought I would find a song that will not be a dinner serenade (though I don't know if it is available on Guitar Hero or not, I have never played)

Artist: King Missile
Song: Detatchable Penis

Lyrics:

I woke up this morning with a bad hangover
And my penis was missing again.
This happens all the time.
It's detachable.

[background singing begins: "detachable penis" over and over]

This comes in handy a lot of the time.
I can leave it home, when I think it's gonna get me in trouble,
or I can rent it out, when I don't need it.
But now and then I go to a party, get drunk,
and the next morning I can't for the life of me
remember what I did with it.
First I looked around my apartment, and I couldn't find it.
So I called up the place where the party was,
they hadn't seen it either.
I asked them to check the medicine cabinet
'cause for some reason I leave it there sometimes
But not this time.
So I told them if it pops up to let me know.
I called a few people who were at the party,
but they were no help either.
I was starting to get desperate.
I really don't like being without my penis for too long.
It makes me feel like less of a man,
and I really hate having to sit down every time I take a leak.
After a few hours of searching the house,
and calling everyone I could think of,
I was starting to get very depressed,
so I went to the Kiev, and ate breakfast.
Then, as I walked down Second Avenue towards St. Mark's Place,
where all those people sell used books and other junk on the street,
I saw my penis lying on a blanket
next to a broken toaster oven.
Some guy was selling it.
I had to buy it off him.
He wanted twenty-two bucks, but I talked him down to seventeen.
I took it home, washed it off,
and put it back on. I was happy again. Complete.
People sometimes tell me I should get it permanently attached,
but I don't know.
Even though sometimes it's a pain in the ass,
I like having a detachable penis.

[background voices continue to sing "detachable penis" for
a while, then out]

Karaoke Friday - Two weeks in a row?

That's right kids, two straight weeks of this after an elongated hiatus.  That is due in part to 977music.com, where I have really been digging the alternative channel.  It is far better than what passes for alternative in Pittsburgh, which has to be at least 10 years old before it will be played.  Not that (77 doesn't play some older stuff, they most certainly due, but they play a lot of more contemporary alternative (stuff that doesn't sound like a bad imitation of Pearl Jam) and that is just fine with me.  Anyway, since last week I went with a newer song (at least newer by my standards) I thought I would go for a second straight week in that direction.

I was walking down the street,
When out the corner of my eye
I saw a pretty little thing approaching me.
She said "I've never seen a man
Who looks so all alone,
Could you use a little company?

If you can pay the right price
Your evening will be nice,
And you can go and send me on my way."
I said "You're such a sweet young thing
Why you do this to yourself?"
She looked at me and this is what she said:

"Oh, there ain't no rest for the wicked,
Money don't grow on trees.
I got bills to pay,
I got mouths to feed,
There ain't nothing in this world for free.
I know I can't slow down,
I can't hold back,
Though you know, I wish I could.
No there ain't no rest for the wicked,
Until we close our eyes for good".

Not even fifteen minutes later
I'm still walking down the street,
When I saw a shadow of a man creep out of sight.
And then he sweeps up from behind
And puts a gun up to my head,
He made it clear he wasn't looking for a fight.

He said "Give me all you've got
I want your money not your life,
But if you try to make a move I won't think twice."
I go like "You can have my cash
But first you know I got to ask
What made you want to live this kind of life?"

He said "There ain't no rest for the wicked,
Money don't grow on trees.
I got bills to pay,
I got mouths to feed,
There ain't nothing in this world for free.
I know I can't slow down,
I can't hold back,
Though you know, I wish I could.
No there ain't no rest for the wicked,
Until we close our eyes for good".

Now a couple hours have passed
And I was sitting at my house,
The day was winding down and coming to an end.
So I turned on the TV
And flipped it over to the news,
And what I saw I almost couldn't comprehend.

I saw a preacher man in cuffs he'd taken money from the church,
He stuffed his bank account with righteous dollar bills.
But even still I can't say much
Because I know we're all the same,
oh yes we all seek out to satisfy those thrills

"Oh, there ain't no rest for the wicked,
Money don't grow on trees.
We got bills to pay,
We got mouths to feed,
There ain't nothing in this world for free.
I know we can't slow down,
We can't hold back,
Though you know, we wish we could.
No there ain't no rest for the wicked,
Until we close our eyes for good"

Karaoke Friday - Because I will be getting in late

Not that I have been all that punctual doing these entries anyway, but heard this on 977fm.com's alternative station while sitting at my desk.  I thought the music was catchy enough, but I loved the lyrics.

Robert's got a quick hand
He'll look around the room
He won't tell you his plan
He's got a rolled cigarette hanging out his mouth
He's a cowboy kid
Yeah, he found a six-shooter gun
In his dad's closet hidden in a box of fun things
And I don't even know what
But he's coming for you, yeah, he's coming for you

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, outrun my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, faster than my bullet
x1

Daddy works a long day
He be coming home late, yeah, he's coming home late
And he's bringing me a surprise
Because dinner's in the kitchen and it's packed in ice
I've waited for a long time
Yeah, the slight of my hand is now a quick pull trigger
I reason with my cigarette
And say your hair's on fire
You must have lost your wits, yeah

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, outrun my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, faster than my bullet
x1

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, outrun my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, faster than my bullet
x3

Karaoke Friday - Early and late

Wow, I haven't done one of these in ages, and of course it is not Friday.  But with Friday comes the day before my birthday, which means I have plans, glorious plans.  Okay, maybe not so glorious but a trip to the Pittsburgh Burger Company followed by catching the Green Lantern premiere is more than what I do most days.

For those not in the know, Karaoke Friday is where I pick a song, usually one I like but not always, and post the video here.  As an added bonus I also grab the lyrics so you can grab you hairbrush or whatever it is you grab when you sing in front of the bathroom mirror.  It used to be a more regular feature on the page, but with the closing of Imeem (which was bought out by Myspace) many of my old KF tags have been rendered useless, so those looking to hop in the Wayback Machine will be highly disappointed that many of the videos are no longer there.

As for today's selection, I ran into it the other night while working on a blog entry.  I usually have my Pandora station open when I am doing blogs (as my Facebook friends can attest, I annoy the fuck out of them with the good music updates over there) and while working on one the other day this song popped up on my station, a song that is a keeper in my book.

Let's get fucked up and die..
I'm speaking figuratively, of course..
Like the last time that I committed suicide.. social suicide..
Yeah, so I'm already dead on the inside,
But I can still pretend with my memories and photographs,
I've learned to love the lie.

I wanna know what it's like to be awkward and innocent, not belligerent.
I wanna know how it feels to be useful and pertinent and have common sense.. yeah
Let me in, let me in to the club, cuz I wanna belong,
And I need to get strong, and if memory serves,
I'm addicted to words and they're useless.

(In this department)
Let's get fucked up and die..
I'm riding hard on the last legs of every lie,
And the BMX bike of my life is about to explode,
I'm about to explode.
I'm a mess, I'm a wreck.
I am perfect, and I have learned to accept all my problems and short comings,
Because I am so visceral, yet deeply inept.

I want to thank you for being a part of my the forget-me-nots and marigolds..
And all the things that don't get old..
Is it legal to do this? I surely don't know.
It's the only way I have learned to express myself around other peoples' descriptions of life..
I'm afraid I'm alone and entirely useless...

(In this department)
Let's get fucked up and die.
For the last time I'm feeling
we'll try not to smile
As we cover our heads and drink heavily into the nights
That's no shocking and surprise.
I believe that I can, overcome this and beat everything in the end
But I choose to abuse for the time being,
maybe I'll win, but for now I've decided to die.

Sister soldier
You've been such a positive influence on my mental frame
If I could ever repay you,
I would, but I'm hard up for cash
And my memory lacks initiative.

God damn the liquor stores' closed,
we were so close to scoring
it hurts, it destroys til it kills..
I am tired and hungry and totally useless.
(In this department)

Karaoke Friday - Saturday edition

Yeah I should have posted this yesterday, no need to remind me, I get it already.  But between lunch with Lynn and weeding through quite a few options video wise last night, I opted to lay down and next thing I knew it was saturday.  Since I was already late, I figured I would get to this later in the day, and went about doing other things.  Anyway, I am back now and I better get this posted before it becomes the Karaoke Friday - Saturday edition posted on Sunday.
