Multiply 365 Day 270 - Puck this

 

I think I remember saying a little while back that I wouldn't use not having anything to say as a crutch for avoiding to blog, but on days like today it is very tempting to break that vow. At least last night I had an excuse, I was pretty well drunk, enough so that I was lucky to bang out the two sentences that I did. Memo to self, stay away from shots of Jack Daniels in the future.

If it is of any consolation, the blog wasn't the only thing I was neglectful of last night. I was supposed to take part in a fantasy hockey draft, but I missed it, so my team was autodrafted. The thing is the league is only 6 teams, so I have to think everyone got a pretty decent roster, and given how bad I was last year, maybe having Yahoo draft for me will turn out to be better than me doing it myself. A quick glance at the roster and I seem to have started out okay,

Not too shabby for me not being in attendance. Might be a little heavy on Capitals, I was burned with Mike Green last year and if I had been there I would never have drafted Ryan Whitney, who gets injured about as often as he breathes. Oh well, with 6 teams in the league I am sure there will be ample opportunity to replace the sucky guys.

There, I guess there was something to blog about after all. Now I can sleep a tad bit easier.

Multiply 365 Day 72 - Fantasy hockey update

While thinking of what I might blog about today I decided to take a look at how my fantasy hockey team is doing. For those that haven't been with the blog all that long, I am in a 6 team fantasy hockey league, the top three teams all win money, though it should be noted that third place is just a return of the entry fee. That being said i have spent most of the year bouncing around in the top three, and with roughly 11-14 games left for most NHL teams I am in third place, still good enough to get my money back, but no more. Plus I am pushing the games played limits on a number of positions. They were set pretty high, so early in the year I was comfortable switching guys out on an almost nightly basis, but now that we are down to the wire I don't have the wiggle room in that regard that I once had. But since I haven't really mentioned the team in what seems like months, I guess tonight is as good a night as any to see just how I stack up against everyone else.

Fantasy Hockey 2009 - the thread

Like last year, I am once again involved in fantasy hockey.  Unlike last year I am merely a participant, after trying to set up a league last year, only to find myself scrambling for teams at the last moment.  While I appreciate those that did partake of the league (and those that kicked my ass I might add), setting up a league and finding enough participants is far harder than in say, fantasy football.  Instead this year I just joined a public league on Yahoo, so I didn't have to hunt down teams. 

 

With that being said, week one is complete and  I posted a 4-5-1 record (4-5-1 overall as well), but I did pick an MVP every week last year and will do so again this year.  MY first week's MVP is Ilya Kovalchuk, who post a line of 5 G, A, +2, 6 penalty minutes, 2 power play points and 11 shots on goal. 

I plan on using this thread for the remainder of the season to post my fantasy hockey MVPs.  Unlike football, I haven't found a good video service to use to put video together, probably due to the fact that teams play a multiple of games through the course of a week, so there is no fantasy hockey highlights for me to edit. 

Before I conclude I do need to make mention of a trade that I completed and was made official Tuesday, effective Wednesday.  I dealt Tomas Vanek, Johnathon Toews and Evgeni Nabakov for Pekke Rinne, Chris Drury and Alexander Ovechkin.  I didn't propose the trade but was happy to jump on the opportunity to get Ovechkin on my roster and as it turned out Vanek got hurt in Tuesday's game, so I ended up dealing a hurt player for a healthy one.  I will make that trade any day.
